Customs & Compliance

We all want to reduce the risks in our supply chains and reap the rewards, but it's a minefield of compliance rules out there, from agricultural restrictions to health and safety laws.  So, whether your moving freight by air, sea, rail or road, across one border or many, make sure you talk to the experts.

Compliance Knowledge Matters

There are a host of issues affecting international trade. We have a selection of the more interesting and quirky examples for you to view.  Find out more about Compliance from our display at the WCA Conference Shanghai Sept 2011.  See Compliance at The Business Centre

Security in the Supply Chain

In June 2005, the WCO Council adopted the SAFE Framework of Standards to secure and facilitate global trade and act as a deterrent to international terrorism, secure revenue collections and promote trade worldwide.  Increasingly, countries are adopting the SAFE Framework standards into their own customs regimes. C-TPAT, AEO, PIP, Frontline and SEP all utilize the same SAFE Framework standards from the WCO.

AEO:  Charles Kendall Freight have held AEO status since February 2010 which enables us to take advantage of the legal, quality aand efficiency savings for our customers.

C-TPAT:  Charles Kendall are C-TPAT participants and use the C-TPAT ‘Best Practice Guide’ as benchmark for our operations. The benefits to customers include a less risky supply chain and a smoother passage through US/Canadian customs with a far reduced risk of VACCIS examinations;

  • The ratio for VACCIS (or Intensive) examinations for non C-TPAT participants is around 15 % or higher.
  • Using a general groupage box increases risk of customs stoppages by 25 % - 45 % upwards due to potentially high risk commondities being mixed in with your cargo.
  • Ratio for VACCIS (or Intensive) examinations for C-TPAT participants – 2.70 %. or lower (US Customs Statistics)
  • CKF level of VACCIS examinations – less than 1 %.

CKF are building C-TPAT participant LCL boxes which will benefit from;

  • No high risk commodities accepted.
  • No personal effects.
  • No walk ups / Yellow Pages.
  • No transhipment cargoes.
  • No shipments without an audit trail and background check.
